The marketing fight continues

Over these past few days, we’ve seen nothing but a blood bath struggle between Nvidia and AMD to win the consumer over between the GTX 275 and the HD 4890. Price cuts from AMD have already waged their ways into the fight, leaving some consumers torn between decisions.

To add to the marketing agenda pool, Galaxy Microsystems has released its own Geforce GTX 275 Overclocked Edition card with Digital PWM, which it claims is more suitable for the enthusiasts who attempt high power conditions, as the power design can deliver up to 160A to the GPU.

More specifically, the card features a four phase VRM design with digital pulse width modulation. It uses a Volterra VT1165MF controller and 4-phase CPL-4-50 and four MOSFET power chips (VT1195SF) capable of delivering a max current of 40A. This design definitely lays the groundwork for some great overclocking potential. The memory also features an improved two phase VRM design.

The card itself runs at factory overclocked 650MHz core, 1475MHz shaders and 1200MHz of 896MB GDDR3 memory. At the moment, only an 896MB model is available. However, we should point out that the company is well-known for its non-reference memory, and this particular GTX 275 is equipped with fourteen 512Mb (64MB) high-speed 0.8ns Samsung chips which it claims steady overclocks of up to 1.5GHz, while specified for exactly 1250MHz. Interestingly enough, the card also features a dual-BIOS that allows for speedy BIOS recovery, fan speed control, and a more intuitive “do it yourself” overclocking experience.

As far as cooling is concerned, Galaxy equipped this monster with an Arctic Cooling Xtreme Cooler which consists of 3-big-leaves fans, five heatpipes and the ability to intelligently adjust fan speed. Just the cooler will retail for just under €50,- or about $60,-. The company has done internal tests and reports that a 3DMarkVantage score north of P13000 was achievable with this card.

Pricing and availability information have not been revealed yet, but we definitely recommend this particular card to be on the short list for any potential GTX 275 buyers.
