IceQ 4 will be HD 4850 exclusive

We managed to find out that HIS won't be doing an IceQ version of the HD 4870 card, at least not in near future. The new IceQ4 cooling will be limited to the HD 4850 cards, which HIS has released some time ago.

AIB partners that have released non-reference HD 4870 cards are quite rare. Some partners have decided to come up with this type of the card and you can find limited versions like Sapphire's Toxic, or Powercolor's PCS and Gainward/Palit's Golden Sample and Sonic. As far as we know, ATI has given the green light to partners to come up with their own designs but partners are not very keen on doing it, since GDDR5 is still very pricey and it is easier to sell ATI designed cards.

The cooler on the HD 4870 is quite good, so there is very little to none gain with such a card. It gets better overclocking results, but nothing spectacular, as HIS has already released two overclocked HD 4870 cards which work at 780MHz for the core, and come with either 512MB or 1GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4,000MHz.

You can find HIS available HD 4800 series cards listed here.
