The target is pirates, however

If you are playing around with a pirated copy of Halo ODST you could be banned, as Microsoft is taking swift action by banning any player that is caught playing a pirated copy of the game.

Those players who are “illegitimate ODST players” are being permanently banned; and believe me when I tell you that our sources tell us that Microsoft is taking this very seriously and are not fooling around at all. The illegitimate ODST players are going to get whacked if Microsoft catches them.   Think it won’t be you and you won’t get caught?  Think again.

Those who did get the copy by legit means should not be in danger, but the retailers that broke the street date could, however, be in some hot water if they figure out where it was sold. Our sources tell us that the ban could be just a permanent ban for the Xbox Live account, or for the entire console. depending on what Microsoft finds.

Our advice continues to be that you should not risk it. By now, everyone knows what the street date is; and if you are engaging in piracy then you should get banned. While Microsoft claims that they can detect who is and who is not playing a legit copy of the title, we still suspect that mistakes are possible. Don’t risk it, even if the copy you have is legit.
