Precautionary retrofit to avoid possible problems

It seems like
Microsoft can’t catch a break lately, with the problems that they have been having with the Xbox 360. This time the issue centers around the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. It seems that Microsoft has confirmed reports of the wheel controller emitting smoke when the power supply for the wheel (in rare cases) fails.

Microsoft announced what they are terming as a voluntary retro fit following reports of malfunction. Microsoft claims that the number of reported incidents is very small so far, but they are taking the proactive step of offering customers the option to have the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel replaced/retrofitted to avoid possible issues.

In the meantime, Microsoft recommends that owners only use the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel with batteries rather than with the DC power supply until the unit has been replaced/retrofitted.

Owners can find additional information on the Xbox 360 support Web site at: http://www.xbox.com/support . This development has to be troubling for Microsoft, as it continues to be saddled with problems related to the “Red Ring of Death” that has plagued many Xbox 360 units, forcing Microsoft to extend warranties and service units to keep customers happy.
