Pearl White will be discontinued

Dell’s popular new XPS M1330 notebook has received many raves over its cool looking exterior and colored shell, but it seems that Dell continues to have issues with delivery of the XPS M1330 in the Pearl White and Crimson Red colors.

Problems with the high-tech painted finish of the exterior shell is not the only snag that Dell has had with this popular notebook that was launched in June as a replacement for the previous XPS M1210. Dell continues to experience parts shortages, as well, with the key problems being availability of the backlit widescreen 13.3” LCD that the XPS M1330 uses.

According to Dell the XPS M1330 in Tuxedo Black is the only color that is currently meeting Dell’s internal quality control standards, while both the Crimson Red and Pearl White colors are not meeting their standards on a consistent basis. Part of the problem is said to center around the fact that the Crimson Red and Pearl White require more coats of paint to produce the finished product, and dust contamination during the multiple coat drying stages is reported to be a problem.

As a result, Dell has moved to discontinue the XPS M1330 in Pearl White. Dell customers who have already placed an order for the XPS M1330 in Pearl White will have their orders fulfilled, but Dell will not be accepting any new orders for the XPS M1330 in Pearl White since it has discontinued that color.

Dell has been pleased with the response and reaction to the new XPS M1330, but does admit that the large number of orders has caused some customers to experience delays in having their orders completed. Dell is ramping up its orders with vendors in an effort to meet the growing demand for the XPS M1330, but it will take some time for Dell’s vendors to ramp up and increase their production for Dell.
