Dell Computer currently offers 5 consumer grade PC models that run Ubuntu Linux, and the creator of the Ubuntu version of Linux, Mark Shuttleworth, claims that Dell has more PC offerings of Ubuntu Linux in the works.
Dell declined to comment as to its future development projects, but it did indicate that it has been favorably pleased with its sales of Linux-based OS PCs.
Several privately held companies offer standardized versions of Linux that they support, including Novell, Red Hat and Shuttleworth’s own company, Canonical. Linux has long been viewed as a OS threat to Microsoft’s Windows OS.
