Computex 08: Demoing 22-inch multi-touch model

Albatron was once a manufacturer of televisions before they went into the motherboard and graphics card market, but it seems like the company has looked back toward its roots with its new touch screen displays.

Albatron is using a rather novel IR technology and, as such, there’s nothing on the front of the display as with most touch screens. The demo display was a 22-inch screen with 1,680x1,050 resolution; and although it’s thicker than  your average 22-inch panel, it seemed to work amazingly well.

We’ve got a video of the display in action and it works with multi-touch, which allows for some pretty neat stuff to be done with it. One of the demos consists of Google Earth being manipulated and the second is of a simple drawing application which allows you to use the screen as a doodle pad.

Albatron is looking at doing 60-inch screens with this technology and they anticipate that they’ll be used in schools or during interactive presentations. The technology is also meant to be quite cost effective and it’s not restricted to screen size.

You can find the video here, apologies for using Picasa, but for some reason we couldn’t get Google video or YouTube to accept the video file.
