Windows Mobile 6 users will be unhappy

With all of the new razzle dazzle that is Windows Phone 7, it is likely that many Windows Mobile 6 users have been licking their chops at the prospect of being able to upgrade to Windows Phone 7 when it is released. Well, don’t get too excited, because word is that Microsoft has decided there will be no upgrade path when the new version of the OS is released.

According to the word that we hear today, due to the very specific hardware requirements necessary to power and support the Windows Phone 7 experience, there is not going to be any upgrade path. This does include the HTC HD2, which does seem to meet all of the requirements to support Windows Phone 7, with the exception that it does have three buttons.

So, if you are a fan of the Microsoft mobile platform and happen to own one of the current Windows Mobile 6 devices, you are looking at the purchase of new hardware when Windows Phone 7 drops. This is not the kind of news that anyone wants to hear, as most always want an upgrade path of some sort.
