ARM aims to launch three new Cortex processor cores in 2010, codenamed Eagle, Heron and Merlin.
The Eagle will be part of the company's high-performance Cortex A
series, while Merlin will be a new core for ARM's Cortex M lineup. The
Heron is part of the embedded Cortex R series.
The Eagle is supposed to replace the Cortex A9 and the company claims it will be aimed at the "very high-end."
ARM CEO Warren East claims the designs will be finalized within 18
months and that they will sit alongside existing products for some time
before the old designs are phased out.
