E-mailing bomb threats are a growing threat

FBI used a type of remotely installed spyware to investigate e-mail bomb threats in a high school near Olympia. Once implanted the software reports users IP, different information and an ongoing log of the users outbound connections. The suspect in question was sentenced this week to 90 days in juvenile detention after pleading guilty.

Although the means of how this spyware will be distributed is yet unknown, it doesn't strike us as odd because in 2001 FBI reported working on a virus called Magic Lantern. There were other two cases in which spyware was used but the agents involved actually physicaly sneaked in and implanted key loggers.

One thing really leaves us wondering, how on Earth did they bypass all the anti-viruses and anti-spyware/malware programs and we sincerely hope we don't find that out the hard way.
