Not Rock Band related, just restructuring

Word has reached us that MTV Games developer Harmonix, who is responsible for the Rock band franchise, has done some restructuring. The restructuring, however, is said to have caused the loss of at least 39 positions from the company.

While the company is positioning the move as a restructuring move, the company claims that the decision for the layoffs was necessary to better align the company with their business plans and release schedule going forward. Our sources tell us that the QA team was the hardest hit, but at least one developer was let go, as well. The 39 affected are said to represent about 13 percent of the company’s total employees, according to our sources.

While some might immediately suggest that the move was related to cuts that publisher Electronic Arts has been making, our sources tell us that this is simply not the case and the move is unrelated to what EA has been doing. The cuts also have nothing to do with the sales of the titles in the Rock Band franchise or the number of titles that the company has on its plate going forward.
