IBM has signed a $1.4 billion dollar, seven-year, global IT outsourcing deal with the UK chemist group AstraZeneca.

Big Blue said in a statement that the deal renews and expands an existing contract and provides for IBM to manage AstraZeneca's global IT services in 60 countries. The deal includes server and storage hosting, PC management, service desks, network and communications services, including e-mail, and computer operations support.

AstraZeneca said it was interested in outsourcing more of its IT because it would allow it to focus on its drug development business and save cash.
