Target for slashing more than 5,000 jobs achieved

Another round of Microsoft employees were kicked to the curb yesterday, as 800 more employees were shown their way out the door. Microsoft had previously announced that it would be cutting 5,000 jobs before June 2010 in response to the unfavorable economic climate.

According to sources, Microsoft had already slashed 4,600 jobs in previous rounds of cuts, and with these additional 800 they have reached their estimated cuts ahead of schedule. Our sources have been unable to pinpoint if any area in this round was harder hit than any other.

While the company has confirmed that it has completed the staff reduction plan sooner than anticipated, additional cuts could still be instituted if the economic climate does not improve. On a brighter note, the company did say that they are still adding headcount in priority areas. So, at least they are still doing some hiring, which is better than many other companies these days.
