Over 15,000 seasonal employees to be hired

GameStop is still banking on raking in the cash this holiday season and that they are bulking up their staff by an estimated 78% to deal with all of the anticipated customers. According to industry sources, GameStop is in the process of adding 15,000 seasonal employees to make sure that customers get good service and handle the estimated additional traffic that the recent console price reductions, coupled with the high profile upcoming releases, are expected to generate.

While GameStop, like most retailers, normally adds seasonal employees for the holiday, our sources suggest that they have never ramped up like this before. Despite some of the recent suggestions that sales numbers might not live up to projections, GameStop seems to think that the extra help will be necessary to service customers.

If GameStop is successful in hiring the numbers that they are projecting, the increase will be a 46% increase in total employee headcount from where they are today. GameStop is likely to do well this holiday season, as reports suggest that titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2 have excellent pre-order numbers and the company will move a lot of copies of these two games alone.
