Multiple users in preview have received the update

Starting late
on Thursday and continuing into this weekend, the first several waves of the Xbox Live Update for the Xbox 360 was pushed to those accepted into the preview program.

Early reports are good, with most of the comments that our sources have reported to us suggesting that the process was very quick and painless for the most part. One interesting thing of note that our sources have reported is that it does not appear that the actual update downloads everything all at once. After the first part of the update is installed and then the console is rebooted, if you use any of the new features such as Twitter or Facebook, for example, your console goes out and downloads that option and then installs it without a reboot. We suspect that this was done to conserve disk space for those who do not have a lot of disk space or will not be using those features. So, if you are not going to use that feature, don’t access it; and it appears not to install it, according to reports from our sources.

It is still unknown how quickly Microsoft intends to run through this preview cycle before turning the update loose to all subscribers. Our sources do tell us that so far the update does seem to be pretty bug free, but some isolated incidents are likely to have been reported. Those claiming to be in the know suggest that we will likely see this release during the first week of November, as it is thought with CODMW2 coming out the second week of November, Microsoft would not want to try to push an update during the same time as this high profile release.
