Codename Streak is closer to release

From whispers that we hear the Android MID, which is going by the codename Streak, is still in development. It is closer to release, and it appears that although testing and refinement does continue, Dell has committed to bringing the product to market, according to our sources.

From what our spies are telling us, the Streak in its current form sports a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen using capacitive display technology. The Streak will get its connectivity offering 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth support. A 1300 mAh battery will power the device, which should give it a pretty long battery life and it will offer micro SDHC support for storage.

What might be the more interesting thing about the design is that it includes a front-facing camera as well as a 5 megapixel camera. It is thought that the front-facing camera was included to offer video calling support, but some think it might not be a camera at all, but rather a light sensor. Still, with the 3G support as well as Wi-Fi, the possibility of video conferencing support does at least sound like an interesting twist for the device.

It is running version 2.0 of the Android OS, and it is expected that it will run a version of 2.x when it is finally released. As for a release date, our sources have no idea. It is possible that Dell could roll it out at CES, but until they have a carrier commitment in place it could be that it will not happen until later next year.
