Version 1.2.0 starts to be pushed out

Big news comes from the land of Palm today with the announcement that the long-awaited version 1.2.0 of the webOS for Palm Pre is starting to be pushed out to users.

According to what we hear, the version 1.2.0 checks in at about 79MB and it will start being downloaded over the next couple of days when the device is both idle and high speed network connectivity is available. After it is completely downloaded, users will be notified by an on screen message when it is ready to be installed.

As for what exactly is in version 1.2.0, we are a bit unclear beyond the knowledge that 1.2.0 contains a variety of bug fixes that is said to make up the vast majority of what is in this update. As for new features, we know that it includes the ability to purchase applications directly from the webOS Application store and download music tracks directly from Amazon. No word on whether iTunes syncing has returned, but we expect that iTunes support will return in this release from what our sources are telling us.

It remains to be seen if version 1.2.0 will bring the stability and enhancements that Pre users have been seeking, but we suspect that as long as it has taken to get this version out the door, Palm does have a vested interest to get this release right; so we expect that it is likely that this version should be pretty darn good, or that is at least what users are expecting it to be.
