Arcade holiday still up in the air

As Microsoft announced the $50 mail-in rebate in an effort to clear out Xbox 30 Elite inventory in preparations for the upcoming Xbox 360 Elite holiday bundle, our sources are confirming to us that the selection of the two titles to be included has been made.

In a surprise move, Microsoft has selected LEGO Batman and Pure to be the two titles that will be bundled with the Xbox 360 Elite this holiday season. The selection of LEGO Batman does seem like a very good choice, as LEGO Indiana Jones was a very popular choice last year. LEGO Batman received good reviews and adds a lot, including the ability to play as the villains, which should prove popular for those who have never played the games in the LEGO series.

The selection of Disney’s Pure, which was developed by Blackrock Studios, could signal redemption for this title that won all kinds of awards and praise from the critics, but didn’t fare well at the sales counter; this was mostly due to a lack of promotion on Disney’s part and a lack of understanding of how to market a title to an audience that is different from the typical target market for most Disney Interactive titles. It also could change opinions from those hardcore gamers that would not normally consider this title by virtue of the Disney logo on the box.

While our sources tell us that Microsoft is still trying to decide which titles they will select for the Xbox 360 Arcade holiday bundle, they have narrowed it down to several options. Our sources are whispering to us that it will likely be a different title from either of the two that have been selected for the Elite bundle and it will still include the Arcade bundle disc as last year, but it might include different Microsoft Arcade titles this time around.

Expect an official announcement closer to Black Friday of both Xbox 360 holiday bundles.
