Nintendo will move the price to $199

As we explained yesterday, Nintendo isn’t happy about the sales of the Wii being off from last year and the company is worried that the holiday season could be very bad if they don’t act quickly to combat the price drops by both Microsoft and Sony.

To this end it is now pretty much a done deal that the company will move the price of the Wii down to $199. The only thing is we continue to hear from our sources that what is actually included with the system at $199 will be changing slightly. We can’t yet confirm how the current bundle might be modified or changed, but it is said that Nintendo will be stripping out the Wii sports title in favor of moving the price down to $199.

Adding to the mix confirming the price drop is a leaked ad from retailer Toys-R-Us that seems to show the Wii price drop to $199. We are hearing now that this ad is said to be hitting the week of September 27th. We suspect that even if this is just a mock up for an upcoming Toys-R-Us ad, the big N will announce the drop during the Tokyo Game Show, although the company will not be officially exhibiting at the show but will instead be at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2009.
