Bold OS upgrade to be released Tuesday

For those BlackBerry Bold owners in the U.S. who happen to be with AT&T, the wait for the new BlackBerry Visual Voicemail feature to be added is almost at an end. According to our stealthy sources at AT&T, the company will release a new OS update for the BlackBerry Bold that will offer the Visual Voicemail option at some point this Tuesday.

From what we know about the Visual Voicemail feature users will be able to store up to 40 voicemails for up to 14 days and even archive voicemails to either the internal flash memory on the Bold or to a MicroSD card, provided that you have one installed.

Users of Visual Voicemail will be able to forward voicemails as an MMS or to other users via an external Email address as an attachment. They will also be able to save phone numbers in a Visual Voicemail inbox directly to their address book as well as set up a voicemail greeting from within the Visual Voicemail application itself.

According to our sources, once the OS upgrade on the Bold has been completed, users will still have to call customer service and ask them to turn on the Visual Voicemail feature for that BlackBerry Bold’s phone number. The way that we understand it, the Visual Voicemail option will be free; and all you have to do is ask for customer service to turn it on. It is likely to become standard down the road when the Bold ships with the latest version of the OS, and it will also be standard on the 9700 when AT&T releases it. As for the Curve 8310, 8320, and 8900, we are hearing some rumblings that a later OS upgrade might add it as a feature for these BlackBerry models, as well; but we would not hold our collective breath on this being the case.
