Will add their security offerings to their own

BorderWare Technologies
will be acquired by Watchguard Technologies in a transaction whose details will not be made public because of the non-public status of both companies.

The BorderWare portfolio of offerings is a good fit for Watchguard, who will be able to add their messaging security technology offerings to the other security products that Watchguard already offers. It is likely that Watchguard will incorporate the BorderWare technologies into current Watchguard products as well as offering some new products based on BorderWare technologies.

Sources tell us that Watchguard will be bringing a full featured Email Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus solution box out quite quickly that will be based on the BorderWare technology. If our sources are correct that this is the case, this offering would fill a major gap in Watchguard’s current offerings and help the company make a strong stance against competitors such as SonicWall and Barracuda, who have both made been very successful in the Email Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus appliance space.

While our sources expect the BorderWare’s SteelGate technology to be rolled into Watchguard’s offerings, it is likely that SteelGate users will be given an upgrade path to Watchguard products. The decision to purchase BorderWare is a good fit for Watchguard and should produce a lot of excellent enhancements to their offerings once the integration between the two companies is completed and the platforms merge.
