Gearbox claims it has no time to work on it

Many people will not remember that back in 2006 Gearbox acquired the rights from Regency Enterprises to develop a game based on the Michael Mann movie, Heat. Mann, of Miami Vice fame, directed the gritty movie that started Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer.

Our sources tell us that that when Gearbox locked down the IP for a gaming title, they had big plans to create a great title based on the crime drama. Now, it would seem that they just don’t have any time to work on the development of the game.

From what we are hearing, Gearbox is basically nowhere on the development of the title and the title is on (what is being called) indefinite hold. What is more surprising is that Gearbox might be willing to offload the IP to another interested developer or publisher for the right price.

The film has a very good sized cult following and the right developer with the right motivation could really make something out of this title, but it would seem at least for the time being, it will remain IP that is locked up and that no one is working actively working on.
