R-Type Dimensions gets discounted for Gold

It will be quite an eventful week in Xbox Live land with the launching of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled when it is released on Xbox Live arcade on Wednesday as part of the Summer of Arcade promotion for 2009.

While we can go on and on about how great this remake of the classic co-op game looks after being updated by Ubisoft for HD, the biggest news about the release might just be the fact that the company decided at the last minute to lower the price from 1,200 Microsoft Points to only 800 Microsoft Points. The fact that the company has moved to pricing the title for only $10 could lead to a lot more sales long-term, as many Xbox Live users have been complaining very loudly about the higher prices for the majority of the recently released titles.

The game itself was released by Konami in 1991 and became one of the best selling arcade units of all time. The remake has been updated to take advantage of the HD graphics and widescreen game play and seems to do a pretty good job at staying very true to the feel of the arcade game, from what we can tell. The conversion was completed by Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio.%

In addition to the release of Turtles Re-Shelled, the excellent Xbox 360 version of R-Type called R-Type Dimensions is on sale for Xbox Live Gold members for 800 Microsoft Points, marked down from a normal 1,200 Microsoft Points.

If you have not had the chance to play this excellent remake of the side scrolling shooter, this is one that you should not miss. We have really enjoyed playing this one because of the addition of the multiplayer co-op both locally and over Xbox Live. The game itself does a very good job with the integration of both the 2D and 3D elements of the game to make an excellent time.

While the title was originally knocked by many for its high price at release, at 800 points this is a steal and not one to miss.
