Says the EU violated its human rights

Intel has
appealed the massive €1.06bn fine imposed against it by the European Commission back in May. However, to make things fun, it has chosen to argue that the EU has violated its human rights in slapping it with such a hefty fine.

Intel is basically arguing that such immense fines are supposed to be issued by criminal courts only, not by administrative bodies, nor executive bodies such as the EC. However, in spite of the fact that the fine was levied by the EU's executive branch, antitrust proceedings are, in fact, criminal in nature.

Intel has not disclosed the details of its appeal, but it has confirmed that it has filed one with the EU. The EU Court of First Instance is expected to rule on the appeal in 2010.
