A few bumps in the road return with the service

As the entire planet pretty much knows, Microsoft Xbox Live was down for the entire day for maintenance to the service. According to the Xbox Live Operations Team Blog, the majority of the maintenance was successfully completed. It would appear that after users started using the service once it came back online there have been at least a few bumps in the road.

According to user reports, problems have ranged from unredeemable codes, missing content, failed downloads, and a variety of other issues. The latest download content that has been released either disappeared or is unavailable for download.

One issue that seems to really have caused a lot of heartache is the Ghostbusters pre-order codes that appear to be unredeemable. From our understanding PlayStation 3 owners have had no problem getting their codes to work. The Ghostbuster pre-order codes were to allow users to get their hands of some bonus stuff for pre-ordering the title, but it looks that at least on the Xbox 360 users will have to wait till it is fixed.

So far, Microsoft has not said much beyond the fact that they are aware of the problems in the Marketplace and they are working to resolve the issues. The Xbox Live Operations Team Blog, on the other hand, claims that they are working on the Marketplace issues and should have them resolved shortly. The double-purchase or re-download issues should now be resolved. The reported achievement comparison issues that have been reported on Xbox.com should be resolved later today.

Anytime that you undertake maintenance of this magnitude there are bound to be a few issues that occur. Microsoft seems to have swiftly responded to the issues and is working to address them as fast as they can. Xbox Live users are just going to have to be patient while the problems are fixed. Who knows? Maybe Microsoft will find it in their heart to give users a free download for all of the inconvenience that they have experienced from this maintenance outage.
