After its acquisition of SiliconSystems company back in March, Western Digital SSDs were something that all have been waiting for, but it looks like WD is not going for high-end market but will rather concentrate on embedded and data streaming application systems. The new SiliconDrive III SSD series will be available in 2.5-inch SATA and PATA and 1.8-inch micro SATA form factors.

The 2.5-inch SiliconDrive III SATA drives will offer maximum read and write speeds of up to 100 and 80MB/s and will be available in capacities from 30 to 120GB. The smallest 1.8-inch Micro SATA will have the same write and read speeds but will be available with 30 and 60GB of capacity. The 2.5-inch SiliconDrive III PATA drives will have lower 85 and 65MB/s read and write speeds and will also be available in capacities of up to 120GB.

All three will feature WD's PowerArmor, SiSMART and SolidStor features that will eliminate drive corruption due to power due to power anomalies, give ability to monitor SiliconDrive's usable life in real-time and which will give it integrated advanced storage technologies that ensure data integrity.

The entire series has a MTBF of 3,000,000 hours and will be backed by a five year warranty. You can check out the rest of the specifications here.
