Sometime this month, Microsoft plans to officially roll out Service Pack 2 for its Office 2007 suite. According to the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Program Manager, the package includes "some significant work" and is also a rollup of all fixes that have previously been released for Office 2007 products.

As of now, we know that the service pack's major features include improvement to Outlook’s performance and calendar reliability, significant bug fixes for charts in core Office applications, the ability for client service packs to be removed using an uninstall tool, the ability to save as ODF & PDF formats, and a host of customer-requested improvements to the Office Server products.

Several more detailed features include improved functionality in Excel’s charting mechanism, the ability to ungroup SmartArt graphics, the ability for Visio to export UML models to an XML file compliant with the XMI standard, and improved cryptographic functionality by supporting all cryptographic algorithms offered by the operating system.

On another note, Office 2007 Service Pack 2 will be provided to corporate customers through the Windows Server Update Services, while standard users will receive it through Windows Update. Additional information will be posted to the Office Sustaining Engineering blog later this month.
