The PC formerly known as Hornet

Once again all the leaks and rumours have proven to be true, as Acer has just launched its first ION based system which was known as the Hornet, but its retail name will be the rather less cool sounding AspireRevo.

In terms of hardware features, nothing seems to have really changed from the earlier leaked information and we're still looking at a single core Atom 230 processor and the Geforce 9400M chipset. What we didn't know was the port configuration and it seems like Acer has been pleasantly generous here. The AspireRevo will feature an HDMI port, a D-sub, an eSATA connector, a multi-format card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, six USB 2.0 ports and a pair of 3.5mm audio jacks.

The AspireRevo will be available with up to 250GB of internal storage in the shape of a SATA hard drive or optionally an SSD drive and it will support up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, which is a first on any retail Atom system. Other features as we mentioned earlier includes WiFi, all model will come with 802.11b/g support, although some will also have 802.11n support. Another optional piece of kit is a special VESA mount that allows the AspireRevo to be mounted on the back of your LCD screen or TV, hence the cut-out on one side of the system.

No word on official launch date or pricing has been announced by Acer, so we'll still have to wait a bit until we know if this is the bargain the earlier leaks have lead us to believe it will be.
