Mojo SDK for Pre now available

Palm has launched a preview edition of their Mojo Software Development Kit for the webOS platform that powers the Pre. According to Palm, they are starting to take the numbers and numbers of developers who want to get this “early look” version of the Software Development Kit so that they can start developing for the Pre right away.

The biggest news, however, might be that MotionApps will be releasing a Palm OS emulator that users can purchase to run their older Palm OS-based applications on the new Pre platform. From our understanding, the emulator will use the mass storage device to allow for drag-and-drop functionality to execute the Palm OS PRC files. While the new Palm OS emulator will not be able to take advantage of the functionality of the webOS, it is claiming that it will run most Palm OS applications. Palm expects this to be the only emulation for the Palm OS on the Pre, as the company itself has no plans to offer an emulator, but does realize the need to offer one for those with legacy Palm OS applications.

The Pre is still generating a lot of buzz and interest from both consumers as well as developers who think that the webOS on the Pre has the potential to be perhaps the next big thing. We still think it is a bit early to tell, but the Pre does offer a compelling design that could make it standout versus its competitors.
