Tech execs urging support for patent reform

CEOs of
IT heavyweights Google, Cisco, Oracle, Dell, Intel and 23 other major tech companies have written US President Barack Obama asking for support a patent reform bill, in hopes of reducing expensive litigation.

The bill should reduce damages for patent infringement and apparently change some jurisdiction elements of the system.

"Modernizing the U.S. patent system and stopping the abuses we see now will greatly enhance our efforts to innovate by creating U.S.-based jobs to help better lead our nation's economic recovery," say the execs, and claim the reform would "fuel American innovation and competitiveness."

Conspicuously absent from the list of tech juggernauts is, unsurprisingly, Apple.
