Likely to collect nothing, though

Facebook has
won a court case against a Canadian spammer who took control of Facebook user accounts and used them to spam other members. The court awarded Facebook a whopping $873 million of damages.

The spammer was identified as Adam Guerbuez of Montreal, owner of Atlantis Blue Capital, but it's unlikely Facebook will be able to get much of the awarded cash. However, Facebook says it will bleed Guerbuez dry anyway, just to make a point.

"We are confident that this award represents a powerful deterrent to anyone and everyone who would seek to abuse Facebook and its users," says Max Kelly, Facebook's Director of Security.

We don't see how such a verdict will deter people who have nothing to loose in the first place.
