Japan mobile phone goes 3D

Wooo Hooo

The company
whose name sounds like a sneeze, Hitachi have built a phone with a 3D display with an even dafter name.

The Wooo H001 costs $510 and has a tiny button that says "3D" below the keyboard. If you push it, and the screen's image will appear three-dimensional, seeming to protrude slightly from the 3.1-inch liquid crystal display.

By sending a slightly different image to each eye, the 3D cell phone creates the illusion of 3D, almost like a miniature hologram.  You don't need dippy glasses to see the image but you have to be holding it at a particular angle.

There are no plans to flog the gizmo outside Japan so no one will know what a daft name it has.
