Three SKUs, priced from €599 to €799

Hewlett Packard's DV2 12-incher was announced back at CES, and is supposed to go on sale in early April, but only now did we get the exact specs, SKUs and prices for this interesting notebook.

Obviously, the most interesting part of the spec is the AMD Neo MV-40 CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, as it is the only product announced thus far to be based on AMD's neo platform. All three listed SKUs feature 2GB of memory, HDMI, 5in1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro/xD), 3x USB 2.0/LAN/WLAN 802.11bg/Bluetooth. and a webcam, all packed in a 1.8kg glossy magnesium body.

The entry level DV2 1001eg is priced at €599, packs Radeon X1250 integrated graphics, 160GB of storage and a 4-cell battery. At €662 you'll be able to get the 1150eg, with discreete HD3410 graphics and 512MB of graphics memory and 320GB of storage. This SKU apparently ships with a 6-cell battery and in our opinion it hits the sweetspot.

The priciest SKU is the 1090eg, and €799 will buy you 500GB of storage and a 4-cell battery. Either the retailers got the price wrong, or there's really no point in getting one, as the 1150eg features better graphics and memory, and the extra storage space just isn't worth it.

All in all it seems like an interesting machine, although the price is a bit too steep compared to just slightly fatter, mainstream 12-inch notebooks with dual-core CPUs. Retailers expect to have them in stock in late March, and you can probably expect market-wide availability in early April.

You can find the listings here.
