Patch for JavaScript bug caused delay

Mozilla has
announced that Firefox 3.1 Beta 3, will be released on March 10.

The delayed release was caused by a wait for a fix for a longstanding multi-issue bug in the browser's new JavaScript engine TraceMonkey.

It is not clear if the fix is ready, but the feeling is that if Mozilla does not pull finger and get out soon it could be delayed for months. To accommodate the  fix, as well as other patches and possibly one or more new features, Mozilla has decided to insert a fourth beta into Firefox 3.1's development cycle.

Originally Firefox 3.1 was supposed to be a "fast-track" upgrade that it originally intended to launch in late 2008. Beta 3 was supposed to be out in mid-January now Mozilla has declined to set a public timetable

Firefox 3.0.7 will be released as  a security update sometime today.
