Still not available to buy

Don't you just love when companies gives you all the nitty gritty details on a new product, yet don't put it up for sale despite being one of the world's largest online retailers? Well, Dell has outed all the details of its hopefully soon to be available Mini 10, well, almost at least, as the pricing is yet unknown.

Hardware wise the Mini 10 is similar to the Mini 12, as it too features an Atom Z-series processor, in this case a Z520 (1.33GHz) or Z530 (1.6GHz) and the US15W chipset with GMA500 graphics. This might not be what everyone was hoping for, although there's some good news here, as the memory will be upgradable on later models. In other words, don't rush out and buy one of the first Mini 10's if you want more than 1GB of RAM.

Dell has also fitted the Mini 10 with HDMI, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 160GB hard drive, a 10-inch display with 1,024x576 resolution, a memory card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, an Ethernet jack and a pair of audio jacks. Upgrade options will include Bluetooth (yes, as a cost option!), a built in TV-tuner, GPS and some kind of 3G connectivity. Interestingly a 720p panel is also meant to become available at some stage, but Dell didn't specify when.

The first batch of machines will come with Windows XP, but Ubuntu is meant to be an option in the future. It will also ship with a 3-cell battery which Dell claims is good for up to 3h of usage. There's no word on battery options at this time. For those that like colourful notebooks, the Mini 10 should be appealing, as it will be available with six different colour options for the lids.
