Reportedly to stop shipping 8.9-inch version in Q2

Acer has
officially launched the 10-inch Aspire One netbook, and reports have emerged that the outfit plans to stop shipping its best selling 8.9-inch Aspire One in Q2.

The new 10-inch unit doesn't bring anything revolutionary, just the regular netbook diet of N270 and 945GSE. However, Acer says it will offer it with the 82801GBM chipest too, but we still don't have any details on the CPU to go along with it. It should ship with a 6-cell battery, 160GB HDD, and 1GB of memory, although Acer says you'll be able to upgrade to 2GB. It is expected to appear on store shelves any day now, and will be available in red, black and white colour options.

In related news, Digitimes is reporting Acer will stop shipments of 8.9-inch Aspire Ones sometime in Q2. The site speculates Acer is planning to do so in order to make more breathing room for the new model, although other vendors offer both 8.9 and 10.1-inch netbooks. The 8.9-inch Aspire One is currently the top selling netbook on the market, mainly due to its very tempting price and attractive design.
