Announcement expected next week

According to the Wall Street Journal, Redmond is looking into "significant" workforce reductions, although exact numbers are still hard to get by.

The move is expected to be announced next week, when Microsoft reports its quarterly earnings. WSJ cites people familiar with Microsoft's plans as saying the cuts would impact all divisions, but the plans have not been finalized yet, which is a bit strange if the announcement is to be made next week.

Microsoft is also exploring other methods of cutting costs, but it seems some of its 91,000 workers will be out of a job soon. Microsoft will probably try to find new work within the organization for some of them, others could be offered tempting severance  packages, and some of the cuts will be attributed to attrition.
