Vaporware big seller

Punters are queuing up to buy tech gadgets with unlikely titles such as the iFeast, USB Toaster, Kleen-Stride, and Peaceful Progression Smoke Alarm.

The items are completely bogus vaporware and yet are proving to be the hottest gadgets of the holiday season. They all come from the mind of Arik Nordby, a graphic designer from Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

He thought he loved doing Photoshop. "I love doing package design. I love to play jokes on people. Why not play around with it?" His demo piece was a "do it yourself dentistry kit".  He now flogs the boxes for $7.99 apiece, or $19.99 for a set of four.

The "USB toaster" box claims to allow you to no longer be tethered to the kitchen and you can take your toast and go. Inside the box it says tells you that the concept of such a toaster is silly and unrealistic. "In reality, you, the gift recipient, have been duped," it says.

Our favorite is the Peaceful Progression Smoke Alarm, which awakens you peacefully and slowly in a fire using the sounds of the rainforest.

It means you can awake to your next fire calm and refreshed.
