How would you run the country?

More than half a million people responded to an online survey asking what U.S. President-elect Barack Obama should do now that he has got the U.S.'s top job.

David Plouffe, who headed Obama's successful bid for the White House, said in an email to supporters he was stunned by the result. More than 550,000 people completed the online supporter survey, which Plouffe claimed was the "the most powerful and effective grassroots movement in America."

The Obama election campaign distributed the detailed four-page online survey by email a month ago to millions of supporters asking for their ideas. It asked punters what issues were important to them, whether they would like to remain politically involved, whether they would be interested in running for office and other questions.

Apparently people were falling over themselves to volunteer around a number of top issues, including education, the environment, health care, poverty, and the economy.

More than 86 percent felt it was important to help Barack's administration pass legislation through grassroots support.
