Has 17-inch and 10.6-inch displays

During CES early next year, Lenovo is set to launch its new Thinkpad W700ds which has a pair of screen, hence the ds moniker at the end of the model name. The primary display is a 17-inch unit with 1,920x1,200 resolution, while the secondary 10.6-inch display offers 768x1,280 resolution as it's mounted vertically.

The secondary display can be tilted 30 degrees when you're using it to allow for a more ergonomic work environment. When not in use, it's stored behind the primary display which also makes it easier to transport the W700ds.

As this system is targeting users that are into graphics heavy applications, Lenovo has pulled out all stops and have added a Wacom graphics tablet next to the touch pad on the notebook. The graphics card comes from Nvidia in the shape of a Quadro FX 3700M, although no specifics have been given on the amount and type of graphics memory.

The CPU will be a Core 2 Quad Q9100 clocked at 2.26GHz and it will be paired up with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory. The W700ds also has a pair of hard drive bays that can be configured for RAID and there will be SSD options, as well. It also has a built-in optical drive and a wide range of ports that include what looks to be five USB 2.0 ports, dual-link DVI and DisplayPort.

The bad news is that the W700ds weighs in at a whopping 4.99kg, of which about 900g is the secondary display. Battery life is only good for about 2h, although Lenovo claims that this can be increased to about 3.5h if you run the displays at half brightness. Then there's of course, the price, as this baby starts at a very unobtainable US$3,600 (€2,560).
