Google discovers it can’t really do an Apple

Overcharging  just hacks its users off

Google thought that it might get away with copying Apple by charging a ridiculous price for a USB dongle, only to discover that its users were not that stupid.

Google thought that it could charge $20 for the Pixel’s USB-C to 3.5 mm dongle on the sound basis that Apple would charge that much and its users would pay up. However, Google rapidly discovered what we could have told it already – Apple users are stupid, Android users will just get hacked off.

In fact even Apple users were not that stupid when it came to dongles. Apple, sells a Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor for only $9, so Google was copying something that even Jobs’ Mob thought it could not get away with.

As rage surged around the interweb, Google decided to cut its losses as well as the price of the dongle to a more reasonable $9. This is not the first time that Google has made the mistake of copying Jobs’ Mob – on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, Google opted to drop the 3.5mm headphone jack.

In its place, the company is pushing USB-C digital audio and Bluetooth headphones as part of its Made for Google programme. This managed to hack off those users who had been convinced that moving from Apple to Pixel because of a stupid wireless headphone set up was a good idea. Google had to include a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box of every Pixel 2 to allow customers to use their existing headphones.
