Aspire One is number one, eeek!

Acer has
managed to outsell Asus in the netbook market during Q3. Considering Asus invented this particular market segment, this is no small feat.

Although Asus currently offers a wide range of netbooks, from the old Celeron powered Eee's to the stylish S101, Acer has managed to outdo it with a single model, the little Aspire One.

Acer sold 2.15 million Ones in Q3 and has a 38.3 percent market share, while Asus managed to flog just 1.7 million Eee's for a 30.3 percent share. The dynamic duo has a huge lead over HP in third place, as the U.S. outfit managed to sell just 330k units in the same perion. HP is closely followed by MSI with 320k units, while Dell is fifth with 160k units shipped.

A total of 5.61 million netbooks were shipped in Q3 and the market is growing steadily, in spite of the economic meltdown. Several major manufacturers, such as Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung and LG are just beginning to enter the fray.
