Yahoo, Microsoft make gains in search

Once written off in favour of Google, Yahoo and Microsoft outperformed the US search industry's seven percent increase in search results for the month of October, according to a ComScore report.

During the month of October, 12.6 billion searches were conducted at home, work, and universities, up seven percent from the month before. Yahoo led the way in growth with a 9 percent increase to 2.6 billion searches, while Microsoft gained 8 percent to 1 billion.

Google posted a seven percent increase and AOL unit of Time Warner fell lower than a flatworm and declined by two percent in October. Google is still the biggest, holding 63.1 percent of the market share, Yahoo retained its Number two  position with a 20.5 percent slice, up 0.3 percent. And Microsoft stayed the same at 8.5 percent.
