Two different SKUs

Although the Eee Top showed up on sale a little while ago, it's finally showed up on the Asus Website, but what we weren't prepared for was two different SKUs. The Eee Top is an interesting idea, although we're curious to see how well it'll do in the long term.

Both models, the ET1602 and ET1603, are powered by a mobile Intel Atom N270 processor and the 945GSE chipset, which makes them different from the so-called nettops, as these machines use the notebook parts. The novel idea here is that the system has a (tiny) 15.6-inch touch screen, although we're not keen on the 16:9  aspect ratio; and the resolution is most likely going to be 1,280x720 due to this, but as it's not part of the current details on Asus's Website, we can't say for sure.

Both models come with 1GB of DDR2 memory and a 160GB hard drive, as well as a 1.3Megapixel Webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, six USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, three audio jacks and a pair of built-in speakers. The ET1603 also features Bluetooth and the one real feature that sets it apart, a discrete ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card.

Both models come with Windows XP, although there's also the option to boot into the Eee Top easy Linux. The Eee Top also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, since you can't rely on the touch screen when it comes to using most applications.

The Eee Top ET1602 is available for pre-order from Play.com for £449.99 (€572/$734) with free delivery, in white or black, with availability in just over two weeks time, but we've yet to track down a price for the ET1603.

You can find the ET1602 product page here and the ET1603 product page here
