As cheap as it gets

Sandisk recently
announced a scheme to sell music on microSD cards. In case you missed it, we wrote about it here.

Dubbed slotMusic, the basic idea is to make you replace your CDs with slotMusic cards. Most of us already have tons of records, cassettes, CDs, MP3s and need a new music standard as much as a third nipple, or a strange lump in the same general region.

Sandisk launched the first slotMusic player and kept it simple. The spartan player has no screen, no internal memory or a proprietary battery. This obviously helps keep the price down, and at $19.99 it's nothing short of a bargain. It measures 68x30x15mm and weighs next to nothing. It's powered by an AAA battery, which should provide great battery life mainly due to the lack of some fairly basic features, i.e., screen.

The slotMusic cards should retail at $14.99 and the player will sell in a variety of bundles. The player itself looks like a nice deal, although we wouldn't bet on slotMusic card sales going through the roof.
