Samsung gets pressure sensitive screen

Under Pressure

The Tame Apple Press has popped a hernia after the Wall Street Journal uncovered that Samsung’s latest effort will feature a pressure-sensitive display.

For those who came in late the only real “innovation” in Apple’s iPhone 6S was a pressure sensitive display, called 3D display, so the Samsung’s Galaxy S7 shipping with the technology is being pitched as a copy.

The phone may also feature a fast-charging USB Type-C port as well as a retina scanner. There are no further details about how the pressure-sensitive screen might work. But it is not exactly going to be rocket science. This is mostly because Apple might have a patent for 3D display, but Android has had the technology was under the bonnet of Android 1

In fact a bloke called Adam Outler put together a nice little app called Force Touch Demo which used it.

Outler dismissed the thing saying that the reason it never took off was that it just adds a level of complexity to a user experience.

Hiding user-interface elements behind a “force-press” (or even a right-click) is counter-intuitive.

In any event Samsung is bringing the technology out because of Apple, but it has been there all along it is just no one wanted it until Apple said it was great, super and cool.
