Asustek has business shake-up

by on03 December 2015

Musical chairs

Asustek is shuffling its management deck and playing a game of musical chairs to respond to what it says are “drastic changes” in the business computing environment.

The biggest changes will come to Asustek’s System Business Group which will be split into two. The first is the Personal Computing Business Unit which will look after notebooks and desktops. It will consist of two divisions and two R&D centres.

The second part of the System Business Group will be the Mobile Computing Business Unit responsible for smartphones and tablets. Likewise it will be made up of two divisions, two software R&D centres and a supply chain management centre.

Under the cunning plan Asustek's Open Platform business unit will no long handle desktops and will only be responsible for upstream and non-PC product lines such as motherboards, graphics cards and LCD monitors.

Other changes include making Asustek vice presidents SY Hsu and Samson Hu COO of the company. Hsu will focus on managing the two new computing businesses, while Hu is mainly in charge of Global User Services as well as the Open Platform business unit.

Asustek's ZenFone R&D head Bryan Chang has also been appointed to lead the company's Da Vinci Laboratory R&D team.

At the moment there are not mention of layoffs based on the changes, although we do guess that some office furniture will be moved around a bit.
