Barclays stalls Apple Pay

by on08 October 2015

Maybe next year

Barclays’ Bank is not signing up for Apple pay at least until next year.

In what is becoming a long drawn out affair, Barclays is expected to finally offer Apple Pay as an option to its customers in 2016 and will be the final bank in the UK to adopt the technology.

The Tame Apple Press is furious of course, some have taking to trying to shame Barclays by listing how many of its rivals already allow Apple into their servers.

It is not clear what is taking Barclay’s so long. On the MacRumours site some are claiming that Barclays is not keen to run Apple Pay because it has a system of its own.

One fanboy postulated that the reason that Barclays is coming out now and saying it will bring in Apple pay next year is because it lost so many customers by refusing to bring in Apple Pay quick enough.  Saner heads suggested that people do not change their bank accounts because of an a phone payment service, they are more likely to change their phone.

Apple Pay officially went live in the UK back in July when only a few banks supported it at launch. At the time Apple claimed 250,000 stores allowed users to pay by Apple Pay, although that never was confirmed.

Mobile payments is incredibly competitive. Android Pay and Samsung Pay have since arrived.
