Stylish 8.9-inch Atom

Toshiba has
jumped on the Atom bandwagon and readied its first netbook, the NB100. First listings are starting to appear in Europe, so let's take a look at the specs and pricing.

We're getting a bit bored by repeating Atom netbook specs over and over, but here they are, again. An Atom N270 at 1.6GHz, Intel 945GMC chipset, 8.9-in non-glare LED backlit screen with 1,024x600 resolution. Depending on the preinstalled OS, it will ship with either 512MB or 1GB of memory, for Linux and XP respectively. The Linux SKU has an 80GB hard drive, while the XP version packs 120GB.

As you can see, it looks pretty nice, too and is a bit more classy than most netbooks out there.

Unlike many netbooks, it has an ExpressCard slot, and there's plenty of connectors including 3 USBs, LAN, a 4in1 card reader and it features bg WLAN. It has a 0.3 megapixel webcam, a 4-cell battery and it weighs 1kg.

We managed to find just two listings, both for the stripped down Linux version. The cheaper one currently stands at €378, which doesn't sound too good considering an 8.9-inch Wind with almost identical specs should sell around the €320 mark. We're hoping that it will end up cheaper as soon as it becomes available, and we're expecting it to show up in shops within the next couple of weeks.

You can find the listings here.
