Office 2016 nearing release

by on26 August 2015

Microsoft finally finishing new Office for Windows

After releasing a bunch of Office versions for various platforms, including iOS, Android and MacOS, it seems that the wait is almost over for Windows users as well. Office 2016 for Windows is set to be released on September 22nd.

Microsoft is really a different company now. We would never have imangined that this would be possible, but as you know, the new Office now works on your iProducts, on Android tablets, on the web (where it keeps getting better) and on the Mac. If you've been wondering when you'll get to enjoy the best from Microsoft on Windows, the answer is finally here.

The good news is that Office 2016 for Windows will most probably be released on September 22nd. The bad news is that it has hardly any exciting new features.

The focus of the development team with this version of Office for Windows seems to have been mostly visual improvements. In free software world, theming has been a thing for years, well, Microsoft is learning and bringing a few themes to Office. You'll be able to choose between a colourful palette, we can only imagine what the marketing/PR will come up with to describe that "innovation", and a dark theme to go well with Windows 10.

Joking aside, there is one new feature worth mentioning: collaborative editing of documents, where several people can work on the same document at the same time, is finally coming to the desktop. The feature that helped Google win quite some customers over to its Google Docs and that MS has caught up with in its Office Online suite is finally coming to the desktop. We are thrilled.
